Similar to Sibutramine, Bontril is the only weight loss medication approved by the USA Food and Drug Administration for long-term use in treating obesity. This is despite the fact that its safety and effectiveness have not been established for use beyond one year. In 1999, the Bontril drug was approved by the Food and Drug Administration in obesity management. Bontril works by reducing the body's ability to absorb dietary fat (by about one-third). Proper use of Bontril medication
Bontril is better absorbed and has the optimum effect on body when taken one hour before meals, on an empty stomach. Patients are told to not crush or chew the pill because these actions may destroy the long action, and cause increased side effects. Since Bontril — both SR and PDM — are responsible for sleeplessness, they should be taken before evening. Nevertheless, a proper low-fat controlled diet and regular exercise should accompany Bontril medication.
Side effects
Dizziness, dry mouth, sleeplessness, irritability, upset stomach or constipation may occur in the first few days while adapting to Bontril medication. If these effects persist, the doctor should be immediately informed. He or she may recommend abandoning the treatment.

Precautions
Before starting
A Bontril diet pill prescription, ask your physician for Bontril information. Decongestants and caffeine are out of the question while ingesting Bontril SR or Bontril PDM, as they may increase the heart rate. Driving or dangerous work should be avoided, as Bontril medication causes dizziness.
Overdose
In the case of overdose, your only resort is to call the doctor.
Missed dose
In the case of a missed dose, do NOT double the next scheduled dose.
Store Bontril SR or PDM away from sunlight and moisture.
